Alexander Borodin’s opera Prince Igor, adapted in part from the epic The Song of Igor’s Campaign, made a significant impact on Russian history but left behind no definitive visual record. Prince Igor: Imaginary Portraits was published for the opera’s revival at the Met and includes many of the most prominent artists of two generations. Each artist has created a portrait of the 12th-century Russian warlord Prince Igor.
